All About Fun: Frank Klemens
Our next featured male quilter was nominated by one of our staff, Ginni, who used to take his classes when she lived in Maryland. He is also a customer of ours. Please give a warm welcome to Frank Klemens. Frank is working on his new website right now Frank’s Three Wise Men, so be sure to add it to your favorites and be one of the first to see once it’s up and running.
Here’s what Frank had to tell us about himself.
Who or what inspired you?
I became interested in quilting in 1999 when a dear friend asked me if I wanted to learn quilting. She noticed that I was extremely hurt from the sudden loss of my sister and she knew that I grew up around sewing. She said that quilting will help me get through these difficult times since quilting soothes the soul. She was right. Since then, I have created numerous quilts using any techniques that utilizes a fun process or technique. My favorite techniques include machine piecing, paper piecing, and machine quilting. I began designing patterns in 2004 and enjoy designing quilts using EQ6.
Do you have a funny or unusual quilting story?
When I go to quilt shops, for the most part I am mistaken for a “come along husband”. I was even in a ½ day class in which the instructor thought that I was the husband setting up his wife’s sewing station. “What a catch – a husband that sets up his wife’s station” was proclaimed when I was threading up the machine. I hated to burst her fantasy when I told her I was one of her students!!!
One piece of quilting advice you would give to any quilter or aspiring quilter?
Have fun!!!! I always love taking classes and I try to learn one or two new techniques each year from the classes I take.
Thanks for visiting and don’t forget to leave a welcome comment for Frank. We still ahve plenty of time in the month to feature male quilters and if we run out of time this month, we will go into April with introducitons! Please email me your nominations at nichole@stitchinheaven.com
Hope you are all having a wonderful week!
